Hands-on Plants Workshop: Cordage
Tuesday, May 9 — 6pm to 7:30pm
Celebrate spring in the Gardens by learning and creating with local guest teachers! Enjoy time in nature and a glass of wine or cocoa while you get your hands on creative projects.
Join Sean the Mammoth Hunter to make cordage (string) from natural materials: String is readily available in the modern world, but prehistoric people had to make what they needed from natural materials in their environment. We will look at some of the artifact reproductions that relate to the production and use of cordage. Students will then learn the properties of good fiber plants and several local species that fiber can be harvested from. We will cover methods of processing fiber from different species. Students will make a length of cordage while learning to twine processed fiber. See More Here!
