Hands-on Plants Workshop: Cordage

Tuesday, May 9 — 6pm to 7:30pm

Celebrate spring in the Gardens by learning and creating with local guest teachers! Enjoy time in nature and a glass of wine or cocoa while you get your hands on creative projects.
Join Sean the Mammoth Hunter to make cordage (string) from natural materials: String is readily available in the modern world, but prehistoric people had to make what they needed from natural materials in their environment. We will look at some of the artifact reproductions that relate to the production and use of cordage. Students will then learn the properties of good fiber plants and several local species that fiber can be harvested from. We will cover methods of processing fiber from different species. Students will make a length of cordage while learning to twine processed fiber. See More Here!

Ruben & Clay: Twenty | The Tour

Tuesday, May 16 — 7:30pm to 10:30pm

Ruben Studdard & Clay Aiken are thrilled to reunite 20 years after captivating audiences during their historic run on the second season of Fox’s American Idol in 2003. Both plucked from the relative obscurity of their hometowns in the South, the unlikely pair quickly became audience favorites who were instrumental in helping propel Idol to the top of the Nielsen ratings, nearly tripling the viewership of the previous season, and securing its place as one of the most consequential TV series in American history. Over 38 million viewers tuned in to hear the results of more than 24 million votes cast during their finale, making it the most-watched Idol episode in history and the highest-rated regularly scheduled, live, non-sporting television episode of the 21st century. Clean up Weekend

Saturday, May 20 — 8am

May 20 & 21 is river cleanup in order to get the Whitewater Park ready for this year’s season. We are hoping to have 50, 60, or more people show up to get it all done. We have lots of logs in the river and brush on the shoreline that needs to get removed. Free camping onsite, lunch for volunteers on both Saturday and Sunday, and live music at the Whitewater Music Hall (across the street) Saturday evening when we are done. Bring brush loppers, gloves, and safety glasses if you have them. Please indicate on our Facebook event if you’re able to attend so we know how many lunches to have.
